I hope you are all having a great weekend! I am. After our epic race yesterday and the delicious brunch Ann made for us we all took showers and naps (literally on the floor, no sofas for us) and headed out to check out a local winery.
Such a great way to conclude a race day and perfect medicine for our sore muscles.
Grey Fox Vineyards
Grey Fox is in beautiful Oroville which is just outside of Chico, Ca. Their vineyard is kinda quirky, they have tin cutouts of foxes, pigs and roosters all over the place! I LOVED it.
Their tasting area was in the cellar under this reconstructed barn.
This flag was hanging right over our tasting area. It made me giggle… Because it’s so true of course!!
We chose to taste 6 of their red wines.
We skipped the Sangiovese and went straight to the Zin. They were sold out of the Dolcetto so our 6 tastes were already chosen for us.
I like it better that way. Me and decisions do NOT get a long.
My top 3 were in order of preference were:
- Barbera
- Zinfandel
- Syrah
While tasting the Merlot we were taken on a tour of their new tasting and party area. It’s not finished yet but they are hoping soon. I loved the view from their new tasting room. It’s gorgeous.
It would be such a quaint-quarky little place for a dinner party or wedding reception.
Right now they don’t have any place to host parties and they get requests all the time. So they’re trying really hard to get this place fully operational.
We all really enjoyed the Grey Fox wines.
Dinner was carnitas and Margaritas at Max’s Parent’s favorite taqueria. My camera died so no pictures of the fiesta.
Breakfast
For breakfast this morning I had a heaping pile of left over potatoes with salsa, 2 slices of toasted Udi’s whole grain bread with Cinnamon-Raisin swirl peanut butter. Green tea and 2 clementines on the side.
Do you want to see the view from the deck?!?!?! Trust me you do!
It’s lazy Sunday’s all the way around. We’ve thought about checking out a few other wineries but no solid plans have been made. Except that we are NOT working out today!
I guess my 30 minutes of cross training will get scratched. You only live once, gotta break the rules a little bit.
Tell me about you!! I want to know……
What do you always do on Sundays?
Stay in my pj’s until at least 11:30.
What is the best part of “going home” to see your parents?
I live with my parents but I love seeing Max’s parents for all the tasty food!!
Kettle bells are on sale at Target! Do you workout with them?
No, but the sale is enticing me.
What is your absolute favorite peanut butter?
This Cinnamon-Raisin Swirl from the Peanut Butter Co is definitely at the top of my list.

Im not much for wine, cut that looks like a fun way to wrap up your day! I always go to church on Sundays and I always give myself the day off from working out….I live at home too -it’s the way to go! P.S. I was in Toronto on the weekend and saw that there is a Chipotle there! I’ll still come and have some with you though someday.
Congrats on running a strong race. It appears you may be having too
much fun!!
Favorite Peanut Butter???? Answer — any peanut butter!!!! Could anything be
more obvious? Peanut butter is one of the preferred foods of the gods. Life without
peanut butter would be desolate and without meaning.
Thanks Dad!
Glad that you are having a great time!
My Sundays are busy busy busy. Breakfast, church, visit with friends, walmart, lunch, nap, church, movie (Money Ball)
I have worked out with a kettle bell, it’s not my favorite, but it does work.
Hmm, any kind of peanut butter! Or nut butter!
I just saw Money Ball and thought it was awesome. It made me want to go watch coaching videos. Church… twice?!?! Catholic?
No, we just have a morning service and a night service…;) A group of us are practicing for a puppet show
No, we just have a morning service and a night service…..
I only like to eat raisins by themselves, but the Cinnamon in your peanut butter sounds good. of course it’s CINNAMON! hehe…I’m totally digging Nutella right now. Ugh. Its so good. I think I’m gonna have to go get some now…..
Love that your dad commented! Mine commented on mine yesterday too!! HA!
You should try sprinkling cinnamon on your peanut butter toast or something. Maybe with a little sugar too… It’ll be tasty.
I love checking out my parents’ fridge!!! Kettlebells are cool. I got one this year, but I haven’t had much of a chance to use it yet.
Oh you have to post what workouts you do with the kettlebells once you finally use them.
Looks like a great weekend! I love going wine tasting. I wish I had more time to go.
You live in one of the best places to go!! I bet you are a wine expert. I am not. I’m still trying to figure out how a drink can be “dry”?!?
You would think that…but I am most definitely not an expert. haha. I usually tend to lean towards beer, but I do love wine tasting!
I’m more of a beer girl too. And I like white more than red. We tried all reds this weekend and I’m kinda glad we did because I learned that I liked a few that otherwise I never would have tried. We should do beer tasting in sonoma sometime instead of wine tasting!!
We definitely should! We should also try to plan a date to meet up soon, maybe in San Francisco or somewhere in between us.
Yes, San Fran. would be so fun. I’m never up there so I don’t ever know where the good places are. Sonoma wouldn’t be too bad either though.
That is the perfect way to enjoy the post-race feeling! I need to figure out how to do that after my marathon!
It was pretty nice! I’m so excited about your marathon training. It’s inspiring me to try training for one after my half in March.
awww it looks like you are having a blast! ive never been wine tasting before, i really need to drag one of my friends along (since kevin is sober, unfortunately it couldnt be a date idea!)
congrats on your race! i’ve used kettlebells before and they are definitely a hardcore workout…mighttt need to check out that sale at target now.
oh gosh, i LOVE that cinnamon raisin PB but i think my fave is the dark chocolate dreams one!! (kind of like nutella and pb mixed into one…heaven!!!!)
I’ve only been 3 times and I always feel kinda weird doing it because I know absolutely NOTHING about wine. They say all this stuff like “full bodied”, “fruity”, and “dry”. Wine is a liquid, how the hell is it dry?! You should definitely go though, it’s way fun and so cool to see how different they all taste.
