intuitive eating run-a-muck

January 11, 2012

I literally cut myself loose today. It was awesome!

It all started like this. I was hungry, we were at Wendy’s and I ordered a sensible meal. A salad because it sounded good and some fries because I knew I ate pretty light yesterday for my 2ish hours of running and strength training.

Dad wanted some froyo after lunch, like I can say no, I’ll pass to the froyo. Really?!

So I had a bowl of strawberry-kiwi dairy free sorbet with carob chips and 1 peach ring.

Then I don’t know what happened. At 4pm I wasn’t hungry but I just had to have a muffin. So I ate a udi’s Lemon muffin (times 2) then I really wanted some chips and hummus. In hind sight I think the chips and hummus were just because I’m used to eating when full…

all in all I’m really glad I ate everything I did because it’s all part of the Intuitive Eater in Training process.

For fitness today I had cross training on the agenda, or 2 miles. So I did a Tae Bo DVD, Cardio Inferno. Which after doing it I wasn’t sure if it really fulfilled what cross training is supposed to fulfill so I ran the 2 miles… Yep, my muscles are sore. Like really sore. I’m pretty sure tomorrow’s scheduled 3 miles will look like a professional speed walker on crack!

I’m pretty happy with my splits.

  • mile 1- 10:12
  • mile 2- 9:59

Had I not done the darn DVD I know I could have done 2 9:30 min miles. Gah!

For dinner I continued the run-a-muck(ness) and ordered exactly what sounded good.

Chile verde burrito with rice, guac and pico de gallo. And I ate the whole damn thing! I’m not even stuffed. I literally needed/wanted it! WTF, shut the front door, what the bleep is going on?!?!

Basically intuitive eating has me 9 ways of confused tonight. I did eat crazy light yesterday for how much fitness I did and I’ve upped my workouts like 3 million percent in the last 2-3 weeks. I’ve built a lot of muscle and am doing a lot of cardio considering 3 weeks ago I was doing 3 workout DVD’s a week. Maybe my body really needed all these carbs! The important thing is that I’m letting go, I don’t feel guilty and I’m not overly stuffed.

If life made sense everyone would be president, a justin bieber clone, serina williams double or run an entire universe like Oprah.

You hit the monkey on the head, or whatever that saying is. Maybe your body just needed the carbs. It’s about listening to your body. You did great son!

my biggest problem that I faced when I was training for my first half was that my hunger went out of control with the upped mileage…I ended up gaining a few pounds during training (which is fine…my body also held onto water a bit with the upped mileage as well)…I was constantly starving. Your body will adjust, you might just need to eat a little strategically so that you are eating foods that keeps your body satiated. I never get too hungry the days I run long, Im always STARVING the day afterwards..totally normal :)

Oh this comment saved my day! Seriously. I feel so much better to know that this kinda thing happens to everyone. Maybe in hind sight starting intuitive eating while training for my first distance run is a weird idea. Oh well!!

When I started to run, my appetite was insane! I hated it, because I wasn’t going for the healthy stuff, it was mostly carbs. I still have to fight the urge when I workout a lot. Ok, that’s it, I have to get a Garmin! :)

Have a great day Maren!

You MUST get a garmin. you’ll never be able to run without it once you get one. I’m seriously finishing your scarf. It’s almost done. Just a few more rows!! Sorry it’s taking so long. :(

Where do you get your burritos?! They look fancy…lol. Well, at least the little side plate does.

Haha I was just about to say that I thought the side plate made it look fancy. I’m a burrito fanatic and I have the whole burrito situation in Salinas completely figured out as to where the best ones are.

Your body probably needed the fuel!! And burrito looks amazing. I love Billy Blanks and his taebo workout videos. I always end up sore (too) because I punch to hard imagining dbag ex-boyfriends :)

I’ve been struggling today too – because I’m totally hungry but feel like I shouldn’t be because of how light my workout was today – but I’m thinking maybe I didn’t eat enough yesterday after my run? I’m all sorts of confused too. Even though I want to listen to my body, I can’t stop thinking about what I *should* be feeling/eating… Good for you for not feeling guilty!

I totally get that! I was freaking out last night because it felt so counter productive. I always think about how intuitive eating is supposed to help you eat less but there I was stuffing my face with carbs. I’m thinking I was making up for the two days before where I was working out a lot and wasn’t too hungry so I was eating pretty light. It will all balance out! Keep up the good IE work! You’re doing awesome.
