About Me

Hey I’m Maren. A 20-something, 100% Californian, cookie obsessed, runner who occasionally does nerdy things on the computer.

Example… Blogging!

I slowly gained about 20 pounds in college after always being an intense athlete. I started this blog in January 2010 to help me focus on living happy and healthy through food, fitness and life.

Because of blogging I’ve become a happier person. I learned that loving cookies was definitely okay as long as I balanced out my cookie obsession with some fruits and veggies. Nutrients are pretty darn important and broccoli really isn’t that bad when you know you’ll have dessert after. ;-)

On this blog you will see a lot of cookies, peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, salads, trips to in-n-out burger, spicy salsa, guacamole, potatoes cooked every way imaginable, froyo, bell peppers, celery, peanut butter, cinnamon chex, coconut ice cream, Chinese food, almond milk, awake tea and blueberries.

In the fall of 2011 I found out that I’m severely sensitive to casein and whey, which means for my digestive system to work, and by work I mean literally function at all, I have to avoid all dairy including foods that have any dairy added. So, most of the foods you’ll read about and see here on Maren’s Morsels will be dairy free… except for splurges of course.

I try not to let my eating restrictions dictate my life. I like to eat socially and don’t enjoy making a big fuss about what I can and cannot eat so I try my best to make my dairy free lifestyle work in whatever situation I might fall into. Pizza buffets aren’t too fun and I eat very pitiful-wimpy salads on those days but usually I end up eating some pretty tasty meals. Well –I think they’re tasty.

I hesitate to say this is a Healthy Living Blog because I definitely don’t eat as healthy as some bloggers. I can’t give up my weekly trips to Wendy’s and my daily intake of Starbursts. But I try to make healthy choices because I feel the best when I do. I’m not perfect and definitely don’t ace in the kitchen. I should confess that really good cooks intimidate me, like Kath from Kath Eats and I literally won’t leave her comments because I feel like I’m not worthy……… Fried eggs on Kale Chips?!?!?! Holy Cannoli!

I’m all about my family. We eat together multiple times a week and I love it. I work with my dad printing and producing a few artist’s work. It’s pretty hard work and we pretty much do manual labor most days but it’s a blast and we have loads of fun. We’re also starting our own restaurant together selling tri-tip sandwiches and salads. The family who works together, eats together. :-D

I hope you like my little blog. Please leave me comments because they make me happy!

P.S. If you ever see a blonde girl running with a shirt that says Will Run For Cookies, it’s definitely me. Please honk as you drive by!

This page made me laugh! I love your upbeat attitude, and I can definitely relate to the not 100% healthful eater “syndrome.” I always count my nightly cookies towards better psychological health :-)

Maen,
I found your blog because one of your entries is now used in a course I teach. You have a great sense of humor and great writing. I hope the students will lear a thing or two about health from you.
